Montour
Extra 83 East, photographed on July 9, 1979 with our very own
"R.J." behind the throttle is making slow progress on the tangent East
of Library Junction on a Brookside Turn, just East of Brush Run.
I spent every
moment possible photographing the single unit Brookside Turns when they
were running in daylight hours those last years, not knowing for
certain when that last crew would call. This view, taken from inside
the gauge with a 135mm lens illustrates some interesting track profiles
on the worn out roadbed.
Track speed East of Montour No. 4 was a measly 5 MPH for the entire 14
mile round trip to Brookside. - Gene P. Schaeffer
